How is the Society funded? Our Society is purely a voluntary organisation, receiving no government funding whatsoever, nor are we eligible for lottery commission grants. We rely solely on donations, bequests and our own fund-raising efforts to run our shelter. How to make a donation to us The Nelson SPCA receives thousands of animals every year which come to us as lost, abused, abandoned or just unwanted. Let’s not forget all the strays! All these animals require the best care we can give them. This includes warmth, food, veterinary treatment and most importantly our love, but all this comes at a cost! By donating to the Nelson SPCA you can ensure the work we do in this area can continue. You can make a donation by post, watch out for our yearly appeal envelopes and collectors, or pop in to the Centre where our friendly staff will be more than happy to help you. Or you can donate regularly via the SPCA's HOPE programme (see below). We always give a receipt for any money donated and larger donations of a $1000+ will receive a plaque on our brass plaque wall! Click here to make a donation online. We are also always grateful for any donations made by way of food or bedding. Look out for our donation bins in your local supermarket. Your support means that we can continue to speak for those who cannot speak for themselves, and we couldn’t do it without you. Many Thanks.

Volunteering You can also give us a donation in the form of your time. We are always looking for good volunteers and it’s easy to become one. All you have to do is come in to the centre, talk to one of our staff and fill out an application form. Once the application form has been processed we will then ask you to come in for a short induction course which will cover such things as isolation procedures and cross contamination, DON’T PANIC! It’s easy. And that’s it! |

To become a volunteer you will obviously have a great compassion for animals and be able to work within a team. There are lots of duties such as walking dogs and playing with the animals, but animals make a lot of mess so there is a lot of cleaning to be done everyday! This makes sure we keep our animals healthy and our Centre running to a very high standard. Lots of people come in for just a morning or an afternoon a week, and we are grateful for what ever time you can spare.
We also are
often looking for weekend duty officers too, so if you feel you are able to take
the ambulance out and deal with the public - come into the Centre and have a
talk to one of the staff. If you would like to become part of the team at the
Nelson SPCA please come in and see us. |
